I used to be cool
I used to be Really Cool. Nothing could faze me.

If a car swerves towards me and nearly hits me while I was with a friend, he'd go "Hooooly Shit! You could have died."
"Yeah"
"What do you mean Yeah? That car missed you by an inch. You could fucking be on the road bleeding right now."
"But I'm not. Duh!"

Or if someone almost drops an anvil on my head.
"Fuck! That guy almost dropped that anvil..."
"But he didn't."
"He almost did!"
"Yet, he didn't. What difference does it make if he almost did or completely didn't? I'm not almost dead, am I?"

That is until I read about the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.
Now I'm afraid to leave the house.

Heh. Magnificiently paranoid. btw, judging by your near death experiences, I can only conclude that, in your pre-quantam mechanical awareness period, your name must have been Will E. Coyote. Given that, you can answer this question I've had for a long time: what is it between you and the roadrunner?

Have you read this story called "Singularity"? It's about this really smart scientist couple who decide to breed a kid who is a single presence in the multiverse- so she'd have complete freedom of choice. I mean, if every single path we could take is represented in the multiverse, then arguably, we have no choice, yes? The catch in the story, of course, was that bad shit that happens to this singular child, happens to her in *every* universe...

The multiverses aren't infinite. If I can increase the number of my future selves that are happy, then I _am_ making a choice, right?
Not that I'm suggesting that we have free will (or that we don't) but just in the context of the many-worlds interpretation...

Because in the *other* world, you not only left the house, but died, screaming Really Uncoolly.

AND the colour of your undies didn't match your pants, at all, exposing a further possibility of Real Uncoolness.

O.M.G.

However, since you're my friend, it also turns out in this world that your final LJ post changes the world, solves hunger, and makes India a Superpower. Indian children are made to salute your photo after singing the national anthem at school in 2016.

Hahaha... finding an LJ where people "attempt" to discuss Quantum mechanics is even better than finding one where experts explain it. I read a novel called "Quarantine" by Greg Egan which did a pretty good job at explaining it while still being an enjoyable read.

I laughed at this more than any other LJ - shows how boring everyone else is - so would like to add as friend.
