Letter to the Editor
[info]prenju wants to know if the new Domestic Violence laws apply to those who got married before the law was enacted.

Letter to the Editor:
Dear Sir,
About the new Domestic Violence laws, I would like to know if it applies retroactively to all marriages. I am a very hard-working person with a tough job and tend to relax in the evenings by kicking my wife around and abusing her. In fact, this was one of the reasons I got married. If this law applies to all marriages, it's a grave injustice that the terms of my contract have been changed without my consent.

Yours sincerely

eh - at least he is honest about it.
Hopefully, his woman is just as honest about her needs and desires ;)

I think he is just worried about the Government getting involved in our personal lives. And that now insulting and name-calling are punishable offences. But I think that if your spouse is reporting you to the police, you have bigger problems than the law anyway.

That letter was the sheer genius of ga_woo . I merely had the good fortune to inspire it :-)

I was thinking purely from a legal perspective and actually dint mean it as a joke [honest!!!]. I realized it was funny only when I got ga_woo 's reply [which he sadly deleted and had restored by me in a Frankenstein avatar]

Testimonial from an anonymous commenter on my journal:

I think this is the most fucked up blog i ever read. A complete psychopath in making perhaps or one made already by such fucked up thoughts. [...snip...] I wish i could shoot such people [...snip...] Thank god, i could not tolerate how someone could even think of penning down such thoughts! Thank god, i truly understand now what being a lunatic is!

Has this anon admirer of urs made him/her-self known to you? Maan I'd be scared ...

My company has blocked most of Livejournal including my journal.

I don't think that person would actually go through with murder. Doesn't fit the profile :D I don't know who it is, but that comment was posted from the Bangalore division of a famous MNC.

But generally, yeah, it's a little scary that it's trivial connecting this journal to me and finding me IRL.

bin laden?
Bah, these proxies have no sense of humour.

The solution is to get women educated and independent, not set up effed up laws that will be misused.

Er, you do realise that laws of a country are not a contract between the Government of that country and its citizens, don't you? There is no offer and acceptance- all citizens are bound by it. No citizen can refuse to accept the laws. Neither is the Government to ensure that every citizen knows of the laws. It is understood that the citizens know, since any change in law is pretty well publicised(i.e., media covergae).

Please to remember all this very popmpous sounding dialogue-baazi is garnered from a class I don't even really pay attention in. I have much, much better things to do than actually STUDY, damnit! :D

Are all changes to laws and new laws well publicised? Actually, I think it's understood that the citizens know only because it's impractical otherwise: What? Murder's illegal? Sorry. I'll be careful next time.

Also, as [info]davenchit said, I'm talking about the marriage contract.

What's it any of their business what happens in the privacy of your own home, anyway? I mean -- OMG -- you could be having sex in something other than missionary position! Or you could bad mouth the current governmental powers and policy! Or you could molest and take pictures of children!

Wait... I might want to rethink that bit...

What? Why? Because sex in the missionary position is very important? :P

incidentally, sodomy is illegal in india. that's all the law says, so even if a married couple were having anal sex, techinically they could be taken to court.

Someone should write a letter to a newspaper about how wife-beating is part of our nation's culture and should be preserved. We don't have enough satire in India! This is the perfect time, I think.

btw, don't you think its a little worrying that I make this comment and Renuka whats'ernehm comes up with that bill? I think the policymakers are reading lj blogs for guidance. This is the real reason why they banned blogspot- to ensure that everyone who makes policies, does so from the same source. This is why GoI's policies are always so consistent.

I was thinking about how women are treated like children - needing special laws so that they don't get caught in abusive relationships.

And I just looked up Renukha Chowdhury. She is the minister of state for Women and Child Development.

and also these laws against marital rape. why else would men in india get married then?
this might be our government's devious attempt at population control.

I have a few solutions for population control. But nobody takes them seriously. Nobody likes novel ideas. What's wrong with the death penalty for traffic violations? Huh?

Your interests collage is going around my FL again - what would be really useful and make the meme more accessible to blind folks is if you added alt and text tags to each image! If you need me to test it let me know!

I spent an hour or so on this today and just couldn't find a way to do it. But I'm not that motivated anyway. The collage is more attractive without showing a connection between each pic and the corresponding interest. Gives it more of a collagey feel :) Also, I don't get the blind folks part. Without the pictures, the alt/text tags would just be the interests list in the livejournal profile, wouldn't it?
